Makeup, Hair and Clothing

Makeup: Ever seen pictures of people where you thought to yourself "What was she THINKING when she put on that makeup"? We all have, right? To avoid becoming the next fashion disaster, and to avoid dating your photo shoot to a particular era (unless this is the intent of the shoot), you want your makeup to be as unobtrusive as possible. Natural colors, accents just slightly darker than your natural skin tone will produce this result. Heavy color such as green and blue should be avoided at all costs (think 70's and 80's). The desired result is to be wearing makeup, but to have the appearance of not wearing makeup.

Hair: Make sure your hair is clean, soft and natural. Bring all the tools and chemicals that you would normally use. Unless you are modeling a special style, apply sprays and gels sparingly on location. Once you have overdone it, your photo shoot is ruined.

Clothing: Plan out your wardrobe ahead of time. Look through the clothing you have, and lay it out, examining how different combinations work together. Just as with makeup, if you want your shoot to have a timeless look, avoid trendy clothing. On the other hand, if you are trying to define a particular era in your shoot, make sure you have all the proper accessories that were common in that era. Bring more clothing than you will actually need. Many times what looked good at home in the mirror does not work so well in a photo shoot. Avoid cloths with fine parallel lines, or fine checkered patterns, as these will often create strange patterns in the final image

We love shooting vignettes (short stories), so if you have an idea and some outfits to play the part in, be sure to let us know.
