Here are some photographic resources that we
really like: www.dpreview.com - In depth reviews of an enormous number of digital cameras. You'd be foolish not to check this site before buying your first, or next digital camera. Plus lots of user discussion boards. A word of caution... Phil's reviews are excellent, and can always be counted on to be completely accurate, but do NOT believe everything you read in the user discussion groups, take everything with a container of salt... er, I mean grain of salt !!! www.luminous-landscape.com - A Canadian photographer with a great site covering a broad range of topics. Everything from reviews of film and medium format cameras to photo printers, plus tutorials and how-to's on a broad variety of topics. His opinions are often considered controversial on the internet because he tells it like it is. He gets our utmost respect because we actually want to know if a new piece of gear is a piece of junk, or worth the price. Plus he is a fantastic landscape photographer. Check him out, you won't be disappointed... www.steves-digicams.com - Good place to get a second opinion review of any camera you might be considering. The guy who runs the site is a bit of a battery geek, so if things like power consumption, and battery life are a concern to you, his reviews may offer some additional insights. Additionally, he regularly runs battery marathons, so if you are looking for the very best rechargeable AA cells for your flash unit, see who the current king of the hill is... not all batteries & chargers were created equal !!! www.robgalbraith.com - Rob does not test a lot of stuff, but the things he does test he really puts to the acid test. A very technical site covering many aspects of computing and digital photography.
www.photodo.com
- Great site for those considering a new lens for their SLR cameras. This
independent group has tested hundreds of different lenses, using industry
standard methods, and given each one a rank from 0-5. All you need to know
is that higher is better, and that anything under 2.9 probably isn't worth
whatever you are considering paying for it. Don't buy a lens without
checking this site out first. Note: Sadly, for reasons unknown, these guys
have not been keeping up with the plethora of new lenses coming on the
market, so check and see if the lens you are interested in is there, but you
may have to look elsewhere if it is a very new lens. |
